Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling: Success Stories - NAAAP Asian Women Leaders Forum

NAAAP is pleased to host a special evening to honour and discuss the struggles and achievements of Asian women as leaders in North American society. In sharing stories of these leaders' challenges, successes, and sacrifices, we hope to help and inspire members who may be struggling in their careers, or facing difficult decisions based on gender or ethnicity.

Topics discussed may include: discrimination in the workplace, East v. West management and leadership styles, how gender influences leadership, and unique management solutions.

Our exciting panel of inspiring speakers is from the private, public, and non-profit sectors:

1) Delia Laglagaron, Deputy Commissioner/Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD)

Delia Laglagaron acts for and on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer on any and all matters relating to overall management of the GVRD’s diverse programs, with particular emphasis on contract approvals, authorization of staffing proposals and implementation of corporate-wide management systems. She also oversees the Corporate Strategies Department of the organization and is Deputy Commissioner
of the Water and Sewer Districts.


2) Christina Lui, General Manager, Fine Choice Foods Ltd.

Christina Lui oversees many departments at Fine Choice Foods including Operations, Human Resources, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance. Fine Choice is a Canadian-owned, family-run business dedicated to delivering quality Asian and fusion foods for the North American market since 1986. Fine Choice has grown from a small family business serving Vancouver to a national food manufacturer supplying many retailers throughout Canada including: Costco, Safeway, IGA, T & T Supermarkets and Choices Market as well as restaurants such as Cactus Club and White Spot.


3) Susanna Tam, Executive Director, BC Institute Against Family Violence

Susanna Tam has worked extensively with multicultural communities for the past ten years. Trained as a lawyer, Susanna has helped organizations develop communications and outreach on various social justice and equality issues, including HIV/AIDS, women’s health, multicultural community health and environmental sustainability. She has led non-profit agencies, developed innovative community partnerships and programs, and served on numerous community boards. Susanna currently serves as the Executive Director of the BC Institute Against Family Violence. She is also a principal and co-founder of Mango Communications, a strategic communications firm dedicated to working with socially responsible businesses and social profit organizations to reach Canada’s largest and most influential multicultural group – Asian Canadians.


The discussion will be followed by Q&A from attendees. Attendees will also have an opportunity to network with other professionals. Refreshments will be served at this event. There will be door prizes!
